Internship Experience
If there are constraints on faculty time, offering the program as an internship may be a more realistic approach to getting students this valuable hands-on experience and expanding respite care in your community.
In this format, students would receive upfront training for their role and may complete ongoing assignments such as journals or reflections throughout the semester, but may not be expected to come together as a group to connect with faculty or peers.
At UMass Amherst, we offer one academic credit for every three hours of internship per week, but these guidelines may differ at your institution. Ideally, students would be placed as interns with a partnering organization in the community.
