Service-Learning Course
In this format, students receive academic credit for time spent providing respite care, completing assigned readings and assignments, and meeting live in class with the instructor and peers.
At UMass Amherst, we have offered this through the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department as a 2-credit course. This is the highest effort option and requires that a faculty member dedicate a course to the topic of respite care. This is also the most supportive and impactful option, as it gives students the most concentrated information on respite care and offers families the greatest number of in-home respite hours.
Enrollment 25-30 students
Offered every semester (including summer)
Open to all majors, all years
Families raising children/adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Course components

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
